Validation of 13 Hot and Potentially Terrestrial TESS Planets

چکیده

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) will be able to probe the atmospheres and surface properties of hot, terrestrial planets via emission spectroscopy. We identify 18 potentially planet candidates detected by Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) that would make ideal targets for these observations. These cover a broad range radii ($R_{\rm p} \sim 0.6 - 2.0 R_\oplus$) orbit stars various magnitudes ($K_s = 5.78 10.78$, $V 8.4 15.69$) effective temperatures ($T_{\rm eff }\sim 3000 6000$ K). use ground-based observations collected through TESS Follow-up Observing Program (TFOP) two vetting tools -- DAVE TRICERATOPS assess reliabilities as planets. validate 13 planets: TOI-206 b, TOI-500 TOI-544 TOI-833 TOI-1075 TOI-1411 TOI-1442 TOI-1693 TOI-1860 TOI-2260 TOI-2411 TOI-2427 TOI-2445 b. Seven (TOI-206 b) are ultra-short-period is youngest ($133 \pm 26$ Myr) solar twin with known date. young ($321 96$ G dwarf among most metal-rich ([Fe/H] $0.22 0.06$ dex) host an planet. With estimated equilibrium temperature $\sim 2600$ K, b also fourth hottest $R_{\rm < 2 \, R_\oplus$.

On the formation of terrestrial planets in hot–Jupiter systems

Context. There are numerous extrasolar giant planets which orbit close to their central stars. These ‘hot-Jupiters’ probably formed in the outer, cooler regions of their protoplanetary disks, and migrated inward to ∼ 0.1 AU. Since these giant planets must have migrated through their inner systems at an early time, it is uncertain whether they could have formed or retained terrestrial planets. A...

Can Terrestrial Planets Form in Hot-Jupiter Systems?

Models of terrestrial planet formation in the presence of a migrating giant planet have challenged the notion that hot-Jupiter systems lack terrestrial planets. We briefly review this issue and suggest that hot-Jupiter systems should be prime targets for future observational missions designed to detect Earth-sized and potentially habitable worlds.

Building Terrestrial Planets

This article reviews our current understanding of terrestrial planet formation. The focus is on computer simulations of the dynamical aspects of the accretion process. Throughout the review, we combine the results of these theoretical models with geochemical, cosmochemical, and chronological constraints to outline a comprehensive scenario of the early evolution of our solar system. Given that t...

The Formation and Habitability of Terrestrial Planets in the Presence of Hot Jupiters

‘Hot jupiters,’ giant planets with orbits very close to their parent stars, are thought to form farther away and migrate inward via interactions with a massive gas disk. If a giant planet forms and migrates quickly, the planetesimal population has time to re-generate in the lifetime of the disk and terrestrial planets may form (Armitage 2003). We present results of simulations of terrestrial pl...

Atmospheric Evolution of Terrestrial Planets and Satellites

The evolution of planetary atmospheres and their water inventories are strongly related to the evolution of the solar radiation and plasma environment, which was much more active when the young Sun arrived at the Zero-Age-Main-Sequence. After formation of the terrestrial planets and their early atmospheres, due to the active young Sun and large impacts, heavy species and their isotopes were mos...
